A woman who devel­ops spe­cial pow­ers after being sex­u­al­ly assault­ed becomes a super­hero tar­get­ing preda­tors. Elsa van Damke directs one of the most remark­able debuts of the year. Fred­erik plays a tiny cameo role at the very end of the series.

The series by Elsa van Damke and Jana Forkel is a dram­e­dy, a blend of dra­ma and com­e­dy. At the Munich Film Fes­ti­val, where “Angemessen Angry” pre­miered this sum­mer, van Damke said she had processed her own expe­ri­ences and those of the women on the team. Lie the title, anger is some­thing she car­ries with­in her. This is one of the rea­sons why she want­ed to tell it with humor. “If I were to con­stant­ly let it out, I would­n’t be able to sleep or work,” she said on stage. “The fact that we’re all sit­ting here and hav­ing a qui­et pan­el instead of throw­ing stones is a super­pow­er.” If the series’ con­cept were true, two-thirds of the female pop­u­la­tion in Ger­many would have to be super­heroes. That’s how many women expe­ri­ence sex­u­al harass­ment in their lives, and one in sev­en women is the vic­tim of severe sex­u­al vio­lence. The Fed­er­al Crim­i­nal Police Office recent­ly pub­lished a report stat­ing that vio­lence against women has increased across all areas com­pared to the pre­vi­ous year.
